2 Anti-Inflammatory Teas That Help Reduce Pain, Inflammation, and Support Liver & Joint Health

Today I want to teach you about two wonderful teas that I use frequently in my clinical practice. They are truly powerful natural anti-inflammatory remedies.

If you are experiencing stomach pain, urinary tract infections, joint pain, abdominal bloating, or feel constantly inflamed, my friend, you may be missing out on two powerful medicinal teas that should be part of your daily routine.

And yes — I always smell my herbs! Medicinal plants have a strong, pleasant aroma, and I absolutely love it. 🌿

It’s important to understand that medicinal teas can help reduce inflammation, decrease bloating, and support the body’s natural detoxification processes. Today, I prepared two simple yet powerful tea recipes that can make a real difference in your health.

🔥 Understanding Inflammation

Inflammation is a natural response of the body. Prostaglandins send signals saying: “Something is wrong.” The joints hurt, the body feels sore, swollen, and uncomfortable.

In people with autoimmune diseases, like myself (I have rheumatoid arthritis), the body sometimes sends inflammatory signals even when there is no real external threat. This is why controlling inflammation naturally is so important.

These teas are especially helpful for people with:

  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Lupus
  • Gout
  • Hypothyroidism
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Menopause and perimenopause
  • Overweight and obesity

They are also digestive teas, helping improve digestion, increase energy levels, and reduce bloating.

👩‍⚕️ About Me

Before we continue, let me introduce myself.
I’m Vanessa Gaudiano, a nutritionist and phytotherapy specialist. I teach about teas, juices, shakes, shots, seeds, and supplementation, always focusing on helping women live without pain in a 100% natural way.

Now, let’s get to the teas.

🌿 1) Horsetail Tea (Equisetum arvense)

Horsetail tea is one of my favorites and extremely easy to find. If you don’t live in Brazil, simply search for Equisetum arvense online or on platforms like Amazon.

✅ Benefits of Horsetail Tea:

  • Rich in silicon, a powerful anti-inflammatory compound
  • Helps reduce inflammation in joints and bones
  • Supports people with hypothyroidism
  • Acts as a natural diuretic, helping eliminate toxins
  • Rich in flavonoids, which neutralize free radicals
  • Supports bone and joint strength
  • Helpful for rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, and fibromyalgia
  • Assists in reducing water retention and bloating
  • Can help regulate heavy menstrual flow (PMS support)

This tea is especially useful for people with high blood pressure, since it does not stimulate the body like ginger or cinnamon can.

⚠️ Contraindications:

  • Avoid 14 days before surgery
  • Not recommended for people with severe kidney or liver disease
  • Avoid if using anticoagulant medications (or consult your healthcare provider)
  • Not recommended for pregnant women, breastfeeding women, or children without professional guidance

🍵 How to Prepare Horsetail Tea:

  • Boil 1 liter (34 oz) of water
  • Add 2 teaspoons of dried horsetail
  • If the herb contains stems, boil for 1–2 minutes maximum
  • Turn off the heat, cover, and let it steep for 20 minutes
  • Strain and drink throughout the day
  • Store refrigerated and consume within 24 hours

🌱 2) Artichoke Leaf Tea (Cynara scolymus)

Now let’s talk about this powerful second tea: artichoke leaf tea.

Artichoke is widely known for its role in liver detoxification. Its active compound, cynarin, stimulates bile production, improving fat digestion and liver function.

✅ Benefits of Artichoke Tea:

  • Supports liver detoxification
  • Improves bile production and fat digestion
  • Helps reduce bloating and digestive discomfort
  • Rich in phenolic compounds like rutin and quercetin
  • Powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant
  • Helps reduce systemic inflammation
  • Supports weight management
  • Improves energy and digestion

Even people who have had their gallbladder removed can benefit from artichoke tea, as the liver still produces bile—just in smaller amounts.

🍵 How to Prepare Artichoke Tea:

  • Boil 500 ml (17 oz) of water
  • Turn off the heat
  • Add 2 tablespoons of dried artichoke leaves
  • Cover and steep for 20 minutes
  • Do not boil the leaves (to avoid excessive bitterness)
  • Drink preferably 1 to 1.5 hours after meals

Yes, it’s bitter — but bitter teas stimulate bile production and improve digestion.

⚠️ Contraindications:

  • Avoid if you have bile duct obstruction
  • Consult your doctor if you have gallbladder disease
  • Pregnant and breastfeeding women should seek professional guidance
  • People undergoing cancer treatment should always consult a healthcare professional before use
